June 30, 2006 — Herminio Velazquez, St. Croix deputy chief of police, has announced parking restrictions and street closings for the Emancipation Commemoration activities being held in the town of Frederiksted from July 2 to July 4.
Sunday, July 2, 2006 – Parking and traffic restrictions will be in effect from 6 p.m. until the end of the activities at Buddhoe Park. The following areas are affected:
–Intersection of Strand and Market streets, north to Buddhoe Park;
–Custom House Street, between King and Strand streets;
–Strand Street to King Street in the vicinity of Buddhoe Park; and
–The parking lot located between the Oscar Henry Building (Old Custom House) and the UCA Building.
Monday, July 3, 2006 – Parking and traffic restrictions will be enforced from 10 a.m. until the end of the scheduled activities at Buddhoe Park. The following areas are affected:
–Intersection of Strand and Market streets, north to Buddhoe Park;
–Intersection of Market and King streets to Midre Cummings Park;
–Lagoon Street, between Queen and King streets; and
–The parking lot located between the Oscar Henry Building (Old Custom House) and the UCA Building.
Tuesday, July 4, 2006 – Traffic and parking restrictions for Sunday apply Tuesday and will be enforced from 4 p.m. until the end of the activities taking place at Buddhoe Park.
Vehicles found parked in prohibited areas will be ticketed or towed at the owner's expense. Vendors not holding permits will not be allowed to do business within 1,000 feet of Buddhoe Park.
Deputy Chief Velazquez says the public's cooperation is essential to the community's enjoyment of the Emancipation Celebration.
