VIPD Makes Arrest in Pearson Gardens Murder

June 13, 2006 — The Major Crimes Unit of the V.I. Police Department has arrested Walim C. John in connection with the Sunday, July 9, shooting of Jermaine Heyliger, according to a VIPD release Thursday.
According to Police Sgt. Roberto Lima, John turned himself in to police shortly after noon Thursday. John has been charged with first-degree murder; bail has not been set, pending an advice of rights hearing.
Police reports state that Heyliger was waiting for friends at the Paul M. Pearsons Garden community when he was shot multiple times. The incident was classified as a homicide after Heyliger died from his wounds.
