FYI: Governor Congratulates All Election Participants

Sept. 11, 2006 -Governor Charles W. Turnbull Monday congratulated all the winners and those others who participated in Saturday's primary election. The governor said those who won and those who were unsuccessful must be commended for their courage and willingness to offer themselves for the challenging assignment, which constitutes public service.
It is appropriate on this day, the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attack against America, when we remember those who have and are sacrificing for democratic principles around the world, that we pause to commend those who are willing to serve and lead this community during these challenging times," the chief executive continued.
The governor said despite the moderate size turnout on primary day he is still of the belief that the decision to open all the voting places throughout the Territory was a wise and sound one. "Once funds were available to open all polls, obstructing residents from exercising their voting privileges would have been contrary to the principles set forth in the Voting Rights Act which many risked their lives throughout history to secure," Governor Tumbull concluded.
