Education Conducting Socio-Economic Survey

Sept. 21, 2006 The Virgin Islands Department of Education is conducting the Tri-Annual Socio-Economic Survey through Sept. 22, at public and private schools that participate in the federally funded meal program.
Every three years the territory is required by the U. S. Department of Agriculture to identify the income levels of its student population. Federal reimbursements for the School Nutrition Programs and the V. I. E-Rate Grant are determined from survey results, according to a DOE press release.
In order to gather statistics, every seventh student in the lunch line on the day the survey is conducted is selected. Parents are encouraged to complete the household survey form that their child brings home and return it to the school promptly.
For more information on the survey, contact Ms. Weekly at 774-9373.
