Sept. 29, 2006 — The V.I. Waste Management Authority announced Friday that the Anguilla landfill has reopened following Wednesday night's arson fire, which forced the landfill's closure Thursday and caused $400,000 in damage (See "Arson Fire at Anguilla Landfill").
According to the WMA release issued Friday, "Only persons disposing of waste will be allowed into the landfill." The release also reminds waste haulers of the need for WMA-issued permits and completed waste manifest forms.
Wednesday night's blaze — which completely destroyed three large dump trucks, while partially destroying one track loader — was the second time this month that the WMA has been targeted. On Sept. 12, WMA reported damage to two small waste vehicles on St. Thomas.
In Friday's release, WMA Executive Director May Adams Cornwall once again asked for the public's assistance in "providing any information that may lead to the arrest and prosecution of those involved" in either incident.
