Oct. 3, 2006 — Officials from the Department of Justice are remaining tight-lipped about the demotion of former Solicitor General Elliot McIver Davis, who reportedly took the heat for the last-minute submission of the government's group health insurance plans, signed into law last week (See "Senators Condemn Gov. Turnbull for Last-Minute Insurance Plan").
Justice officials have not commented on the matter.
When contacted Monday, Davis said, "I serve at the pleasure of the governor. I was selected to take responsibility for this problem."
Davis said he had no further comment.
Attorney General Kerry Drue did not return several calls made to her office Tuesday to discuss the matter.
