UVI Sponsors Constitution 2008 Public Forum

Oct. 16, 2006 – The University of the Virgin Islands invites the St. Croix community to its first public forum in the Constitution 2008 public education campaign being conducted in support of the Fifth Virgin Islands Constitutional Convention.
The program, "Constitution 2008: Come Hear; Come Share," will take place at 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Pavilion on the St. Croix campus of the university. All are invited to attend and participate in this exchange on pertinent issues that will surround the convention when it opens in July 2007. Convention delegates will have until July 2008 to adopt a proposed constitution for the U.S.V.I., which will subsequently be submitted to registered voters for their consideration.
Appearing on the program will be UVI President LaVerne E. Ragster, Ph.D.; Ruth Beagles, Ed. D., who served as secretary to the fourth constitutional convention, Carlyle Corbin, Ph.D., who presently serves as the V.I. government representative for external affairs; and Joanne E. Bozzuto, Esq., CPA, who has done extensive analysis of the Revised Organic Act of 1954, particularly with regard to fiscal issues. The event will offer the opportunity for exchange with audience members.
