Dear Source:
Almost everyday Virgin Islanders are bombarded with all types of information whether it comes via newspaper, radio, television or the internet. Some of the information is good, some is bad, some is true, and some is untrue, yet we are a people who read and listen to be informed or entertained.
I am a bit puzzled that some folks have taken such strong exception to the article in the Avis of Oct. 22-23. I don't understand the reason for the big outcry. What are the untruths in the article? Isn't it true that Cecile DeJongh is the Director of the Epstein Foundation? Isn't it true that the St. Croix Central High School Girls Volleyball team was sponsored by J. Epstein? And how were the DeJongh's attacked?
I cannot help but wonder if this article would have been as offensive and gotten this type of attention, had it been written about some other candidate.
Let's get real. There are decent citizens among us whose personal lives are plowed through daily; whose characters are trampled upon and run through the shredder for the sole purpose of exposing simply because of the belief that the "public has a right to know", and the DeJongh's are no exception. After all, this comes with public life.
