Oct. 26, 2006 – The St. John Singers will present an all-Mozart concert at 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 4, at Emmaus Moravian Church in Coral Bay.
The program will consist entirely of works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in honor of the 250th anniversary of his birth. It will include six sacred choral works, of which one was composed when Mozart was age 10 and four were composed in his last year, at age 35.
The program will also feature several instrumental works the Mozart Clarinet Concerto performed by Luben Daniel; Duos for Waldhorn (the Baroque french horn without valves); performed by Theron Leonard on saxophone and John Cahill on french horn; and Mozart horn solos performed by John Cahill.
John Cahill, who has led the St. John Singers since its founding 25 years ago, will direct the program. Mr. Cahill holds a degree from The Juilliard School of Music, teaches piano and advanced placement music and is an accomplished french horn player.
Janice Ballard, who is the music director and organist at St. Thomas Reformed Church, will accompany the choir. Ballard also teaches music at Montessori School and gives private piano lessons. With degrees in music education, sacred music and divinity, she is a children's music specialist.
The St. John Singers are celebrating their silver anniversary this season. This Mozart concert is part of the extra programming that they are bringing to the community in celebration of their anniversary.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for children 5 years and under, and may be purchased at the door.
