Human Resources Association to Hold Conference

July 6, 2007 – The Human Resources Association of St. Croix invites all interested persons to its annual conference at 9:30 a.m., on Wednesday, July 18, at Elizabeth's at the Palms. This year's theme is HR planning: Fail to Plan or Plan to Fail.
"Successful organizations, whether they're multi-billion dollar companies or small family- owned businesses, have many similar traits," said Carmelo Rivera, president of the HR Association of St. Croix. "They have to plan for their success because without proper planning they will fail. Customer expectations, market supply and demand, competitors and other environmental factors change all the time. A strategic plan provides business and operational strategies to meet these changing market conditions. As a partner in your company's leadership team, HR professionals need to know how to lead them though the planning process."
This year's featured keynote speaker is Sharlyn Lauby, president of Internal Talent Management (ITM), a human resources consulting firm located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. (http://www.itmgroupinc.com/)
Prior to starting her company, ITM, Sharlyn held several senior level human resources positions in the hospitality, transportation, entertainment and business service industries. Her last corporate position was vice president of Human Resources for one of the world's largest organizational consulting firms. She has designed and implemented highly successful programs for employee retention, internal and external customer satisfaction, and leadership development.
Attorney Charles E. Engeman of the St. Thomas firm Ogletree Deakins will present a legal update on recent court interpretations of employment and labor laws and other critical legal developments affecting the workplace. Engeman has handled employment and general litigation matters, union campaigns, collective bargaining and related matters for employers in multiple Caribbean jurisdictions. He is a delegate to the Caribbean Employers' Confederation, which is an organization consisting of 17 member countries in and around the Caribbean.
Kenneth Hermon Jr., PHR, Virgin Islands director of personnel will also be a featured speaker at this event. He will speak about the new direction of the personnel division.
The Human Resources Association of St. Croix is an affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). For information on SHRM, visit the national organization's Web site: www.shrm.org .
