Botanical Garden Presents Second Saturdays Program

March 5, 2008 – Island youngsters and their parents will learn how to make and use dried flowers at St. George Village Botanical Garden's "Second Saturdays" program on March 8. From 9 a.m. to noon, on the second Saturday of each month, SGVBG board member Marilyn Chakroff will hold botanically-related workshops to inspire local children and their parents to be more aware of the role plants play in our lives, according to a press release from SGVBG.
"Nearly everyone likes flowers, but fresh flowers only last a short time," Chakroff said. "What if you could preserve flowers and use them for a variety of purposes? In this workshop, participants will learn how to collect flowers for preservation, construct their own plant press, and dry and preserve flowers. Finally, they will use preserved flowers to decorate their own craft projects to take home."
St. Croix residents Bill and Helen Gilbert sponsor the workshop, which will be held in the Bodine Visitors' Center at the garden.
Space is limited; there is a $5 per person charge that can be paid at the workshop. To register, call 692-2874.
