Cartel, Anchor Dive and Speak the Word Pick Up Wins in Bob Owens Action

March 14, 2008 — The Cartel, Anchor Dive and Speak the Word Ministries came up winners Thursday in the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League.
While Speak the Word had a relatively easy time in game three, dispatching Cross Tech in five innings, the Cartel in game one and Anchor Dive in game two had to fight much harder to earn their victories.
Cartel 16, Wyatt Heat 14
The Cartel pulled a mild upset when they knocked off the defending champions, Wyatt Heat, 16-14. The Cartel had 16 runs on 20 hits with three errors, while the Heat had 14 runs on 19 hits with two errors. The winning pitcher was James Smith, with Kennedy Feist picking up the loss for the Heat. Top hitters for the Cartel were Daren Lewis, 3 for 4 with two home runs and five RBIs, and Chad Alexander, 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. For Wyatt Heat, David Gonzalez went 4 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, and Patrick Northrop went 3 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs.
Anchor Dive 8, National Guard Hummers 6
Game two was a squeaker as Anchor Dive edged the National Guard Hummers 8-6. anchor Dive plated eight runs on 13 hits with two errors, and the Hummers had six runs on 11 hits while committing three errors. The winning pitcher was Edwin St. Kitts; Leonard Frett picked up the loss for the Hummers. Top batters for Anchor Dive were Leandro Reyes, 1 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs, and Carmelo Torres, 1 for 2 with a home run and one RBI. For the Hummers, Arthur Canaii went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs and Sylvester Blake went 2 for 3 with one RBI.
Speak the Word 16, Cross Tech 2
In game three Speak the Word Ministries blew by Cross Tech 16-2 in five innings. Speak the Word scored 16 runs on 13 hits with three errors, while Cross Tech had two runs on five hits with two errors. Ian Lewis got the win on the hill for Speak the Word, while Bill Harris picked up the loss for Cross Tech. Top hitters for Speak the Word were Kareem Dennis, 2 for 2 with a home run and four RBIs; Martin Charles, 3 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs; and Rafael Almonte, 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs. For Cross Tech, Joey Jones went 2 for 2 with one RBI and Adam Harris went 2 for 3 with one RBI.
