Brief: Governor Grants Carnival Leave

April 14, 2008 — V.I. government employees will be allowed to take administrative leave to participate in V.I. Carnival activities. Gov. John P. deJongh Jr. said he granted administrative leave “to encourage greater participation in the annual Food Fair and to enhance the celebration of Carnival by all residents,” according to a Government House release.
Non-essential St. Thomas-St. John district employees will be allowed to take time off between noon and 5 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, and Thursday, April 24. Activities include Wednesday’s Food, Arts and Crafts Fair, held in Emancipation Garden and Thursday’s pre-dawn tramp, J’ouvet, which begins at 4 a.m. along Veterans Drive.
Territory-wide, V.I. government employees will be allowed to take off between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday, April 25. Friday’s activities include Children’s Parade and Carnival horse races.
Carnival’s final formal event, the Adult Parade, happens Saturday, April 26.
