St. Thomas Horses Invade Big Island for Holiday Races

May 24, 2008 — There will be nine horses crossing the pond from St. Thomas to battle their St. Croix rivals on Sunday at the Randall "Doc" James Racetrack for the Memorial Day races. Kentucky Kris, Sir Pyy, Overpayment, Silver Horn, Forecourt, Mysterious Flyer, Runaway Vow, Mardi, Suave Smile, and Mi Jesuse will all be on St. Croix for the big annual race.
The feature race of the day, the one-mile eight race, will see two of those travelers in Kentucky Kris (118) and Sir Pyy (118) going up against some of the best St. Croix have to offer in Idol Worship (118), Gallego (116) and Car Guy (115). Three of the horses, Sir Pyy, Idol Worship, and Car Guy will also be making their Virgin Islands debut, so the verdict is still out on them.
Racing fans, however, already knows what Kentucky Kris and Gallego brings to the table. Both were impressive in their last outing, with Kentucky Kris running a good second in the governor’s cup on St. Thomas, while Gallego crushed the field in his last outing on St. Croix.
The rest of the card is made up of several well-matched races. The 1-1/16 mile sixth race should be another good one as three St. Thomas horses goes up against three from St. Croix. Strong Passer (114), Formerly Cat (117), and Black Jack Bob (116) will represent the big Island, while Overpayment (112), Silver Horn (118), and Forecourt (117) will represent the Rock. Silver Horn is the morning line favorite but Black Jack Bob could have a lot to say about the outcome of the race, along with the other. The unknown factor in this race is Forecourt, who will be making his Virgin Islands debut.
