Softball Inc., Wyatt Heat and the Cartel Take Hovensa Slow-Pitch Wins

Sept. 26, 2008 — Softball Inc., Wyatt Heat and the Cartel all came out winners Thursday, the final night of the Hovensa Slow Pitch Softball League's regular season at the D.C. Canegata ball park.
There will be an East vs. West all-star game Saturday, and the playoffs will begin Tuesday.
Softball Inc. 10, STX Merchants 7
In game one Thursday night, Softball Inc. got by the STX Merchants 10-7. Softball Inc. had 10 runs and 13 hits with three errors, while the STX Merchants had seven runs on nine hits and committed five errors. The winning pitcher was Cody St. Pierre, and Bill Harris got the loss for the Merchants. Top hitters for Softball Inc. were Leandro Reyes, 3 for 3 with two RBIs; and Tim Gillespie, 3 for 4 with two RBIs. For the STX Merchants, Timothy Nelson went 2 for 2 with one RBIs and Bill Harris went 2 for 3 with three RBIs.
Wyatt Heat 14, Master Batters 9
Game two Thursday night saw Wyatt Heat pound out 22 hits in powering by the Master Batters 14-9. The Heat scored 14 runs on 22 hits with two errors, while Master Batters plated nine runs on 12 hits and committed two errors. Martin Charles picked up the win on the hill for Wyatt Heat, while Gilbert Jagroup got the loss for Master Batters. Tony Perez led Wyatt Heat offensively by going 2 for 2 with two home runs and four RBIs on the night, while teammate David Gonzalez also had a big night at the plate, going 4 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs. For Master Batters, Joey Jones went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Brandon Handleman went 2 for 4 with one RBI.
Cartel 8, Salty Sailors 5
The Salty Sailors came close to pulling off the upset in Thursday's nightcap, but in the end fell just short to the Cartel, 8-5. The Cartel had eight runs on 10 hits with two errors, while the Salty Sailors had five runs on nine hits and committed three errors. James Smith got the win on the mound for the Cartel, with Jason Roberts picking up the loss for the Salty Sailors. Top hitters for the Cartel were Ray DeFreitas, 2 for 3 with a home run and five RBIs, and Sylvester McIntosh, 2 for 3 with two RBIs. For the Salty Sailors, Brian Bailey went 4 for 4 with one RBI and Helima went 2 for 2 with one RBI.
