Can anyone tell me when the last property taxes were collected, now I am seeing delays in 2006 tax bills um how can you even begin on this.
there is no equity in the amount people owe one parcel is taxed at a different rate than the one next to it, someone else's cousin was the assessor and so there thinking they get a free pass, on and on we go each step costing the people of the VI money to decide who isn't going to pay taxes and still more money for those who sit in judgment of what's fair.
I would propose a clean slate, start from 2008 to make up for the loss tax every single piece of land in private hands at a flat rate no matter the usage unless it is zoned agriculture or commercial and demonstrative public value. what i propose is that if the taxes were reasonable and in the range of $100 per $100,000 of value we could all say we are done, with a exception for those who can not pay there taxes, i don't believe that as property owners we should rent our own property from our government, and seizure of property for failure to pay property tax is exactly like making the owners renters, i would say that if a person can not pay there taxes they should perform some community service of equal value to the owed taxes, beach clean ups, hi way clean up where trash becomes the coin by witch we pay our taxes if we paid $5.50 a pound for trash many peoples taxes could be paid for in one day and if they happed to owe $200 that would work out to roughly 35 or 40 lbs of trash removed from the island all in all the government would have more money the people would have a way of meeting there obligations that didn't harm then in these tough times and all of us could get on with out spending more money to collect what is so far uncollected.
