Dear Source:
Mr. Maduro is certainly a great role model for our young men to have. As long as I've known him he's been playing football or coaching it. He is absolutely correct in saying that this community has been about talk for too long. It is imperative that we act as soon as possible to have a positive effect on our young people. The future is already here and we can't afford to waste more time.
Some time ago I passed by a junior varsity team practice at UVI and a friend and I stayed late with a young man whose parents were very late in picking him up. It's nighttime and this young man would have been waiting all alone on the street. In the time that we were waiting, we found this gentleman to be quite interesting as well as intelligent. It was really a surprise to have someone so young speak to you on an equal level. That is to say that we cannot use the fact that kids are young to neglect their need for guidance and conversation.
Juice, there are people in this community who will help you. I have personally experienced the disregard for young people. We go off to college and they urge us to return home and make a difference, contribute to our community. And when we come back, we're looked at as renegades and disturbers of the peace. If this is what we experience as young adults, I can imagine how our kids are ignored.
Mr. Maduro, thank you for your dedication and I applaud your many efforts. Remember that what we reap we will eventually sow and I see nothing but blossoms for this community if we support great people like Juice.
