Dec. 26, 2008 — A St. Croix man and his stepson were found alive and well at sea Friday morning by the U.S. Coast Guard after being missing since Sunday.
Richard Sealey, 40, and his stepson, Kenneth Rollocks, left for Tortola on Sealey's boat, the "Vitamin Sea," on Sunday. On Thursday, the Source received an e-mail from a person identifying herself as Sealey's sister-in-law, Lesley Hatchett, reporting that they had not returned and their whereabouts were unknown. The e-mail closed with the words, "Please Help !"
On Friday, a Coast Guard helicopter out of Christiansted spotted the boat at sea between 8 and 9 a.m., according to Lt. j.g. Gerard Wenk of the Coast Guard command center. The father and son were taken off the boat by helicopter and flown "in good health" back to St. Croix, while the Vitamin Sea was left adrift.
Wenk said he had no information about the condition of the boat, where the two might have gone or what happened at sea.
"We've got our Coast Guard team conducting an interview with the two individuals right now to determine that," he said.
