Our Town Frederiksted Inc. Brings Paintography Exhibit to Fort Frederik Museum

Our Town Frederiksted Inc. brings to the Fort Frederik Museum the work of well-known photographer Diego Conde in a spectacular showing of the town of Frederiksted in paintography art. The exhibit, which is called “Frederiksted,” will be at the museum for two weeks, beginning with a reception at 5:30 p.m. after the business meeting on Friday, June 4, and will run until Friday, June 18. It will be opened to the public everyday from June 7-18.

In the over 50 images on display, Conde captures the historic town of Frederiksted in full glory, in buildings, streetscape, moko jumbie dancers and seascape. In the book, “The Glory Days of Frederiksted” one of Al Franklin’s poems states “it’s a town alive with memories, etched deep in hearts and souls, lay waiting there to rise from centuries.” Conde’s images exemplify that statement and vividly celebrate the town’s history, art, people and culture.
His images bring back through the exhibit, the glory and splendor of the architecture and the ambience of the many buildings, and the treasures these buildings were and still are. Even buildings that are in disrepair still hold solid traces and memories of the people who at one time lived in them, and how they contributed to the Frederiksted cultural experience—the lingering ambiance of the town of Frederiksted.
Our Town Frederiksted, which has been a community organization in Frederiksted for the past 22 years, is seeking to raise funds through this exhibit. The works can be purchased at the exhibit from Our Town Frederiksted, and the artist will be on hand. Diageo VI is a major sponsor of the event. Scotiabank and the V.I. Department of Tourism are also contributors.
