Rotary Awards 2010 Javon Jade Alfred Memorial Scholarship

The Rotary of St. John Scholarship Committee met and considered four candidates for this year’s Javon Jade Alfred Memorial Scholarship award. All four were truly impressive and have restored our faith in young people. Meeting them was the fun part. The really hard part was selecting the winner. The finalists were Joanne Berthier, Danella Bridgewater, Christin Marsh and Timothy Newton.

The winner, Timmy Newton, was announced at JJ’s Fun Day on Monday at Winston Wells Ball Field. Special thanks to both members who came for the event. Newton has been accepted at UVI and will pursue a degree in computer science. He says he would like to design video games and study to be the chef in his own diner some day. He will come to a Rotary meeting to receive his first check. I sincerely hope that some of you can arrange to be there to meet him then.
