Drake's Seat Is Site of Friday Shooting

Police on St. Thomas are investigating an early morning shooting that put one man in the hospital Friday.

Details are still being put together, but the incident occurred in the area of Drake’s Seat around 3:30 to 4 a.m. Friday, Deputy Police Chief Dwayne DeGraff said in a brief phone interview.

The victim, a man in his 40s, told police that he had been parked in the area around that time and when he pulled out to leave, someone opened fire, either from a nearby vehicle or the bushes, DeGraff said.

The man, who sustained at least one gunshot wound to the torso, drove himself to the hospital. As of 5 p.m. Friday, he had survived the shooting.
