Enforcers Sink Anchor Dive, 19-11, in Softball Action

In a battle of cellar-dwellers, the Colianni & Colianni Enforcers beat the Anchor Dive Pirates 19-14 Thursday in Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball action at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park.

For the Enforcers it was a big win as they continue to fight for respectability in the league. Earlier in the year they had their biggest win to date when they upset the mighty defending champions, Set It Off.

The Enforcers finished with 19 runs on 17 hits and four errors, while the Pirates had 11 runs on 14 hits and three errors. Winning pitcher was Steve Niskey, while Edwin Sankitts got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Dave Wentz (4 for 5 with two home runs and 2 RBIs), and Chris Doyle (4 for 4 with three RBIs). For the Pirates, Daren Lewis was 3 for 4 with a home run and 5 RBIs, and Anthony Cannonier was 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs.

Hummers 22, Lumberjacks 14
The Benjay Lumberjacks, coming off of a huge upset victory Tuesday against the league-leading Seaborne Stealers, put up a good fight but could not match the National Guard Hummers.

The Hummers pulled away in the late innings to post a 22-14 victory. The win propelled them into first place after the Seaborne Stealers were pummeled by Set It Off in the late game.

It was the Hummers with 22 runs on 20 hits and 3 errors, while the Lumberjacks had 14 runs on 15 hits and 2 errors. The winning pitcher was Stanley Jones, while Greg Miller took the loss. Top batters for the hummers were Deshawn Brown (3 for 4 with a home run and 4 RBIs) and Ovidio Aquino (3 for 4 with a home run and 5 RBIs). For the Lumberjacks, Miller went 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs and Asim Shilingford was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 RBIs.

Set It Off 22, Stealers 5
Game three was no contest as Set it Off avenged a loss Monday night to the Stealers by crushing them in four innings by way of the 15-run mercy rule, 22-5. it was Set It Off with 22 runs on 26 hits and two errors while the Stealers finished with 5 runs on 11 hits and three errors. Julio Carmona got the win on the mound for Set it Off while Sam Ramos got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Orlando Benitez (4 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBIs) and David Samuel (3 for 3 with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs). For the Stealers, Steve Simmonds was 2 for 2 with a home run and 3 RBIs, and Dwayne Harvey was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs.
