Body Found in Coral Bay

A body that may prove to be a missing St. John boater was discovered Monday morning in Coral Bay, the V.I. Police Department reported.

At roughly 6:30 a.m. Monday, the 911 emergency call center was notified by the U.S. Coast Guard base in Puerto Rico that Rainbow Maker, a vessel that had been missing at sea since Sunday, had been found on the southern side of Coral Bay.

Officers inspecting the vessel found that it was empty, with no occupants aboard.

During further inspection of the general area, the body of a white male was discovered floating in the water along the shoreline.

The vessel is registered to Vince Barnett of Coral Bay Harbor, who was last reported seen by area residents on Saturday.

No obvious signs of foul play have been uncovered in the matter at this time, while detectives with the Criminal Investigation Bureau continue their investigation.
