Consideration of Floor Agenda:

An Act amending Title 18, Virgin Islands Code, chapter 3, section 41, repealing Act. No. 7892

Members of the 32nd Legislature will meet to address loopholes in Act No. 7892, a law creating a Joint Board of Elections, in order to meet the April 8 deadline for a special election to fill the vacant 15th senate seat.

There are two bills being considered:

Bill No. 32-0017 — An Act amending Title 18, Virgin Islands Code, chapter 3, section 41 and repealing Act No. 7892

Bill No. 32-0022 — An Act appropriating $140,000 to fund a special election to elect a 15th senator to the 32nd Legislature of the Virgin Islands.

Bill No. 32-0005 – “An Act amending Title 33, sections 42 and 54, of the Virgin Islands Code, to enhance revenues for the Territory of the United States Virgin Islands as part of the implementation of initiatives set forth in the Government’s Five-Year Plan towards attaining fiscal stability and economic growth, and for other purposes, including the establishment of a new timeshare fee, all through enactment of “The Virgin Islands Revenue Enhancement and Economic Recovery Act of 2017” (Bill subject to the approval of the Committee on Finance, Feb. 15, 2017)

Bill No. 32-0007 – An Act amending Title 33, V.I.C., subtitle 2, chapter 81, relating to property taxes (Bill subject to the approval of the Committee on Finance, Feb. 15, 2017)

Agenda:

The committee has scheduled a meeting to receive testimonies from the acting commissioner of the Department of Human Services and the executive team of the Roy L. Schneider Regional Medical Center

Roy L. Schneider Regional Hospital and Medical Center Executive Team

The executive team will testify concerning the financial challenges and plan of action for the Roy L. Schneider Regional Hospital and Medical Center, the Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Center, Hemodialysis Unit, Psychiatric Ward and other related issues

There will be a separate committee hearing for the V.I. Department of Human Services which will be announced at a later date.
