Men Charged with DUI During VIPD Impaired Driving Crackdown

Officers of the V.I. Police Department have been conducting traffic checkpoints since July 4 to find people driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages, controlled substances, and prescription medication and get them off the road.

The traffic initiative has netted three DUI arrests so far, according to a police news release issued Sunday.

– At about 12:17 a.m. July 4 police arrested Zachary R. Zamorano, age 43 of Teague Bay.

– At about 12:30 a.m. July 7 officers arrested Mark D. McAllister, age 54 of Estate Welcome.

– At about 11:35 p.m. July 17, police arrested James D. Killoran, age 37 of Estate Canaan
All three men were charged with driving under the influence of an intoxicating liquor.

According to the police report, officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle driven by Zamorano during a DUI checkpoint on the East End Road, just west of Ziggy’s in Estate Solitude. Zamorano admitted to drinking alcohol and failed the field sobriety tests administered by officers. He was placed under arrest as a result.

Officers arrested McAllister at a DUI checkpoint on King Street, Christiansted, in the vicinity of Fort Christiansvern. McAllister also admitted to having a few drinks and failed the administered field sobriety tests. Police said McAllister’s blood alcohol content was over the legal limit, resulting in his arrest.

While conducting another DUI checkpoint at the same location on King Street, Christiansted, officers arrested Killoran after he failed the field sobriety tests and his blood alcohol content was over the legal limit, the news release said.

Bail for Zamorano was set at $1,000. He posted bail and was released pending his advice of rights hearing. Bail for McAllister and Killoran were also set at $1,000 each, which they were unable to post. Both men were turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending their advice of rights hearings.
