Prompt Response Leads to Suspected Intruder’s Arrest

On April 21, 2022, an adult male from Estate Whim, St. Croix, called the 911 emergency call center and reported an intruder had entered his home. He stated that while he was sleeping in his bedroom, he woke up to find a black male in his underwear standing over him with a metal object in his hands.

The alleged victim stated that he jumped out of his bed, and a struggle occurred. He was able to make it to the bathroom, where he called 911 for help.

He further stated that the intruder was eventually able to enter the bathroom, so he ran out of the house and left the area in his vehicle, leaving the subject on the roadway.

Officers in the area were able to locate and detain the subject, who the victim identified as the intruder, 44-year-old Jelani James. He was arrested and charged with home invasion, burglary 1st, and 2nd. He was booked and transported to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing.
