Man on St. Croix Shot and Killed While Mowing Grass

A man on St. Coix was shot and killed on Wednesday, police say.

Jorge Luis Saldana, 24, was shot multiple times while at work mowing grass in Bethlehem Village on St. Croix. Police found Saldana lying on the ground in front of his apartment. The gunman had already fled the area by the time police arrived. 

Emergency medical care was provided at the scene until EMS arrived, and then the victim was transported to Juan Luis Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery but later succumbed to his injuries. 

The gunman was described as wearing all black with his face covered, according to the VIPD. 

Wednesday’s homicide brings St. Croix’s homicide toll to 17 so far in 2022 and the territory’s total to 23, according to the Source Homicide List.*
