Administrative Assistant Arrested in Credit Card Fraud Case

A St. Croix woman was arrested Thursday in a credit card fraud case that detectives from the Economic Crime Unit began investigating in May, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The investigation revealed that Solly Lantigua, 23, who was employed as an administrative assistant, obtained a patient’s credit card information over the phone under the pretense of collecting payment for a past due bill, according to the VIPD. After obtaining the patient’s credit card information, she allegedly used it to make personal purchases online, police said.

On Thursday, detectives from Economic Crime Unit executed an arrest warrant on Lantigua, who was charged with one count of fraudulent use of a credit card; embezzlement by clerks, agents, employees; obtaining money by false pretenses; and petit larceny, the VIPD reported.

Unable to post $30,000 bail, Lantigua was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending her advice of rights hearing, the VIPD said.
