A man and woman were extradited to St. Croix from Florida on Tuesday to face charges in connection with the July shooting death of Jah-Marley Christopher Alfred, the V.I. Police Department reported.

Jonathan Rivera, 31, and N’zinger Makeda Williams, 29, were apprehended Nov. 3 by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in Florida on an arrest warrant secured by the VIPD Criminal Investigations Bureau, according to the report.

Rivera is charged with first-degree murder and Williams with accessory after the fact in connection with Alfred’s death on July 6 in the area of Williams Delight known as “the turf,” police said. Rivera also faces a charge of unauthorized possession of a firearm.

According to the VIPD, Alfred and Rivera got into a verbal altercation and as a result, “Rivera ran down Alfred and shot him multiple times and he succumbed to his injuries.”

Both Rivera and Williams signed waivers of extradition and were brought back to the territory on Tuesday. According to the police report, they were living in Lakeland, Florida.

Bail was set at $1 million for Rivera and $500,000 for Williams. Unable to post bond, both were remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending their advice of rights hearings.
