A St. Thomas man faces charges of obtaining money by false pretenses and grand larceny after a complaint that he failed to deliver on a business agreement, the V.I. Police Department reported Wednesday.
The VIPD’s Economic Crimes Unit initiated an investigation into a reported case of obtaining money by false pretenses on Sept. 13. “Investigation into the complaint revealed that 45-year-old Anson Gallaway, the owner of a construction company, took monies from victims to construct a prefabricated home and did not fulfill the services,” according to the VIPD report.
On Dec. 12, Gallaway turned himself in to the unit’s detectives and was arrested and charged with obtaining money by false pretenses and grand larceny pursuant to an arrest warrant issued by the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands, the VIPD said.
Gallaway’s bail was set at $34,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.
