A man turn himself over to police on Sunday in connection with a December incident at the Caribbean Cinemas on St. Thomas involving threats with knives over a $20 refund.
According to the V.I. Police, the manager told them when contacted about the incident on Dec. 18 that on Dec. 10 a power outage at the theater caused the movies to stop playing. Roniel Allembert Sr. exited the theater studio, contacted the manager, and demanded his money back, the VIPD report stated.
According to police, the manager informed Allembert that he would be given a receipt to return another day of his choosing. Allembert began yelling and entered the concession area without permission, where he armed himself with two knives, the report stated.
Allembert then approached the manager inside the concession area and continued making threats until he was given back his $20, it said. He then threw the knives into a sink and left without further incident, according to the police report.
Allembert Sr. turned himself in on Sunday and was charged with first-degree attempted robbery, the report stated. His bail was set at $37,500. Allowed to post 10 percent of the amount, he was released pending his advice of rights hearing.
