St. Croix Man Faces Charges After Woman Alleges Assault

A St. Croix man is facing domestic violence charges after a woman said she was assaulted April 18 at the Paradise Mills housing community, the V.I. Police Department reported.

Responding to a 911 call, officers contacted the victim, who told them that she was choked by her ex-boyfriend, Elvis E. Hansen, 35.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau investigated and reported that the victim sustained injuries and received medical attention because of the assault, police said. Several witnesses came forward and corroborated the victim’s account of the assault, according to the report.

On Monday at about 7 a.m., Hansen turned himself in at the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station. He was advised of his rights and admitted to assaulting the victim, but denied choking her, according to the police report.

Hansen was placed under arrest and charged with second-degree assault, domestic violence, in addition to simple assault and battery, and disturbance of the peace, domestic violence, the report stated. He was booked and no bail was set until he is seen by a judge. He was transported to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing on Wednesday.
