Cape Air Encounters In-Flight Emergency

A Cape Air flight from the British Virgin Islands en route to the Cyril E. King Airport, St. Thomas encountered an inflight emergency on Sunday, according to the Virgin Islands Port Authority.

Carlton Dowe, VIPA executive director, said the flight experienced a bird strike north of Water Island just before landing. With assistance, the aircraft landed at CEKA without incident and taxied to the terminal gate, the press release stated.

VIPA’s Airport Operations and Aircraft Rescue and Firefighter personnel assisted all five passengers and pilots aboard the flight. V.I. Fire and Emergency Services transported passengers to the Schneider Regional Medical Center. Two of the passengers were injured, with no fatalities, according to the press release.
