Studio Walsh and the ARTFarm Family will hold an opening reception on Friday and Saturday for an exhibit entitled “Hope for the Future,” with works from Luca Gasperi, Christina Frederick Gasperi, and Marina Gasperi.
Notably, this is also the last art show to be held at Studio Walsh, also known as the Walsh Metal Works Gallery, as it is closing. Artwork by Mike Walsh and tributes to the 40-plus years of Walsh Metal on St. Croix will also be featured.
The reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at Studio Walsh, located at 6214 Estate Peters Rest, St. Croix next to LC Plumbing, through the gate and amongst the trees. The studio is also listed on Google Maps.
For the past 25 years, Mike and Barbara Walsh have used their spacious warehouse to present art and community events to the public. It is now truly the “end of an era” as the metalworks business is closed, and the Walshes are also closing the studio. “It’s time” says Mike. “Barbara and I are ready to age in place — right here at home on St. Croix.”
The Walshes asked Luca Gasperi, a beloved watercolorist, local organic farmer, and close family friend to do this last exhibit with them. “The Walsh studio has always been my favorite place to show,” said Luca. Christina Frederick Gasperi and daughter Marina Gasperi will join him with additional art pieces.
Luca’s work is based on themes of nature and the work often drifts into an almost fantasy land of color, shape, and light. Christina and Marina also root their work in nature and decided on the exhibit’s title, “Hope for the Future.”
As nature shows us, even after devastating events like a hurricane, trees and plants rebound with new growth inspiring us with hope and faith and the possibilities of life. As Christina said, “This show is a send-off and also a celebration of a major art, industrial, and cultural institution here on St. Croix.”
