Ghost Gun and Handgun Discovered During Traffic Stop

During a routine traffic stop of “Operation Set De Tone” on Tuesday, Nov. 19, on St. Croix, the Special Operations Bureau Tactical Team recovered two unlicensed firearms and ammunition, the V.I. Police Department announced.

The traffic stop was conducted along Caanan Road on a white Toyota Corolla that was observed being operated without a license plate affixed to the front bumper of the vehicle. While approaching the driver’s side window, the officers smelled what appeared to be an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, according to the police report.

With the driver and passenger ordered out of the vehicle, a search of the vehicle was
conducted. Officers discovered a 9mm handgun with no identification marks or serial number and a “Ghost Gun” with a six-capacity magazine inserted into the magazine well, the police report stated.

James Thomas, 28, was placed under arrest for carrying of a firearm openly or
concealed and possession or sale of ammunition. His bail was set at $50,000, the report stated.
