At about 3:35 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, Jahvid Alexander, 19 of Mariendahl, was arrested by the V.I. Police Department on St. Thomas and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm with an obliterated serial number, possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute and unlawful possession of ammunition.
According to police, officers of the Special Operations Bureau saw a vehicle on Solberg Road in the area of the former Westbay Supermarket and attempted a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop when officers ordered him to do so. The driver finally stopped in the area of the A Plus Pre School, exited the vehicle and escaped on foot.
Police said Alexander, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was apprehended. Officers found marijuana, a firearm with an obliterated serial number and additional ammunition inside the vehicle.
Alexander was arrested and transported to the Richard Callwood Command for booking. Unable to post bail of $50,000, he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.
Police continue to search for the driver of the vehicle, and the investigation into this incident is ongoing.
