Sept. 17, 2004 – Through Oct. 15, The Good Hope School will be implementing a variety of student activities to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month through a series of student activities, according to a press release.
A school-wide poster contest is being held on the theme of "The Many Faces of Hispanic Culture." Students will create original art focusing on concepts such as the ethnic diversity of Hispanic-Americans, scenes from literature and art, African/indigenous influences and folklore and religion.
A school-wide assembly will be held on Monday, Oct. 18, with dance, poetry readings and skits performed by students
On Friday, Oct. 22, a buffet will be served to the student body by students in the Spanish language classes. As part of the project, these students will research traditional Hispanic meals and translate the recipes before preparing each dish. Some of the foods represented will be paella, enchiladas, burritos, arroz con pollo, tostones and flan.
Within the Spanish language classes, assignments will include reading about Hispanic history, memorizing and reciting poetry and writing biographies of important figures in Hispanic history.
Students will also be learning Latin dance during the month; the workshops will feature salsa, bachata, merengue and folkloric dance, the release said.
