Unable to attend the recent town meeting concerning the inadequacies of the postal system here in the Virgin Islands, there is maybe more to be said.
I've been trying to get the Sugar Estate Post Office to find a package sent from England to my PO Box here. I have the slip, which is dated May 19th and has a "C" designation indicating that it was put into the Customs slot because it came from a foreign country.
When presenting it a week later on May 26th, it couldn't be found and we were told that, "maybe someone else picked it up." That wasn't possible. I still have the slip and it was a first notice.
I have called a Sugar Estate postal employee, most patiently, countless times since then, trying to find out what has happened to this package which is simply a package containing English newspapers. It's really becoming a major chore.
I totally empathize with the problems some residents are having insofar as prescription drugs are concerned and that's a major issue which needs to be addressed post-haste (pun intended) while magazine subscriptions which reach a month later is a lesser priority but is an issue still worthy of note.
Priority Mail inbound from the mainland remains the joke it's been for many years. Express Mail is guaranteed period, both ways. Priority is quite expensive but is not guaranteed so the sender and the recipient have no recourse if something doesn't arrive in due course.
Accolades to our Delegate to Congress for taking the time to address these issues. Donna, rest assured that there are many here in the VI who appreciate both your concern and wisdom. Thank you!
