Brief: Animal Center to Hold Spay and Neuter Clinic

June 3, 2006 – The St. Croix Animal Welfare Center will hold a spay and neuter clinic for cats and dogs on June 11. Pet owners who cannot afford the cost are eligible to receive the service free of charge, and others will be charged low costs.
Development Director Carole Wells said that pets must be spayed and neutered in order to control the rising stray population. "In the last year over 3,000 animals have been dropped off at the shelter, with only 800 finding new homes," she said.
According to Wells, area vets have agreed to honor the program and donate their services as a partial solution to the growing problem.
Appointments for the clinic must be scheduled by June 8. To schedule an appointment or for more information, call the shelter at 778-1650.
