Oct. 31, 2006 — While most of us can't remember our first birthday, Tempo hopes you never forget theirs. The burgeoning TV network, devoted to Caribbean music and culture, is hosting a grand concert party, "Tempo Turns One," this Saturday at Cramer's Park beach on St. Croix.
"It's going to be an amazing event unlike anything the Caribbean has seen," said Nancy Hirsch Group spokesperson Jennifer Abbott. The New York-based public relations firm has its hands full, getting everything ready for the big event. According to Abbott, the party has been months in the making.
More than 10,000 people from all over the Caribbean are expected to land on the big island for the 12-hour event. Scheduled to last from 3 p.m. until 3 a.m., Tempo's birthday bash should give partygoers a chance to let loose all night long if they wish.
Highlighting the event is the lineup of musical artists, which includes The Royal Family of Reggae, Morgan Heritage, The Alison Hinds Show, Machel Montano and Xtatic, Denise "Saucy Wow" Belfon, Wayne Marshall and Sweet Mickey.
Local bands will also be a major part of the show and a welcome attraction for locals. Kenya, The Stroka Band, the Xzecutives and D'Apostle are all slated to make your body move to the "riddims."
Frederick Morton, Tempo senior vice president, began the channel one year ago. In a press release, Morton expressed his gratitude for the love and support the channel has received over the year. "As we reflect on the past and look to the future, we wanted to celebrate the vision and mission of Tempo, to unite the Caribbean through culture," he said.
A native of St. Croix, Morton hopes the island will open its arms to the rest of the Caribbean and show them what Crucian hospitality is all about.
Tempo can be viewed on 20 Caribbean islands and currently supplies 1.5 million viewers with their daily dose of Caribbean "flava."
