Alert: WAPA Hotline Waterlogged

Oct. 19, 2008 – A water-logged main feed telephone line in the Christiansted area has created some technical difficulties for the V.I. Water and Power Authority’s hurricane emergency hotline located at the Richmond power plant. Callers should still dial 713-9272 (713-WAPA) but after the initial greeting they must press 5 for the call center or zero (0) for the operator. Callers with hurricane related concerns can also dial 773-2250 or 773-0150 and press 5 for the emergency call center or 0 for the operator.
A statement from WAPA Sunday after noon said Innovative Telephone was working to repair the cable, however, because there will now be limited telephone lines into WAPA, callers are asked to be patient and to call again if their call is not immediately answered.
WAPA will inform the public once normal telephone operations resume.
