Brief: Innovative Asks Public to Help ID Downed Lines

Oct. 18, 2008 — A number of Innovative Telephone cables were knocked down by Hurricane Omar on St. Croix, and company officials said in a statement Friday they are asking the general public to help identify downed lines and any other safety issues.
"Due to the vast majority of the damage occurring on St. Croix as a result of Hurricane Omar, we have mobilized internal resources to locate trouble areas and to establish a strategic plan to expedite the restoration of services to our subscribers," Innovative Telephone and CEO Clarke Garnett said in the statement.
"In addition, Innovative has added resources from the St. Thomas service center to assist the St. Croix-based service representatives in fielding the increased volume of calls from subscribers," he said.
Repair efforts will be conducted in coordination with the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority.
Information from the public can be relayed to Innovative by calling 340-773-8189 or 340-773-8316.
Customers with telephone or cable television troubles at their home or business also can call 912 to make a report. If calling from a cellular phone, customers are advised to call 340-778-1742.
