The Juan Luis Hospital Injectables and the Fire Department were Tuesday’s winners in the Governmental and Industrial Softball League played at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park. The Injectables stuck it to the Rebels in a slugfest, while the Fire doused the Public Works Pavers in the nightcap.
Injectables 18, Rebels 14
In game one on Tuesday, the Injectables outlasted the defending champion Rebels, 18-14. The Hospital squad, off to its best start in recent times, finished with 18 runs on nine hits, despite committing five errors. The Rebels plated 14 runs on nine hits with one error.
The winning pitcher was Julio Perez, while Cirgie Bell got the loss for the Rebels. Top batters for the winners were Kenny Milligan (2 for 2 with two RBIs), Reuben Molloy (3 for 3 with one RBI), and Guido Schjang (2 for 2 with one RBI). For the Rebels, Sylvester Blake was 4 for 4 with two RBIs, and Luis Frontal was 2 for 3 with three RBIs.
Fire 19, Pavers 6
Fire kept the Public Works Pavers as the only winless team in the league by soundly thrashing them 19-6 in Tuesday’s night cap. Troy Brown scattered eight hits and allowed six runs in picking up the victory on the hill for Fire, while Gabriel Jagrup got the loss for the Pavers. It was the Fire Department with 19 runs on 11 hits and two errors, while Pavers finished with six runs on eight hits and two errors. Top batters for Fire were Leon Lang (2 for 2 with two home runs and four RBIs) and Steve Simmonds (3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs). For the Pavers, Luis Roman was 2 for 3 with one RBI, and Orlando Benitez was 2 for 2.
