District Announces Winners of Competition

Superintendent Jeannette Smith-Barry has announced the winners of the St. Thomas-St. John District’s annual Battle of the Books Competition. The competition promotes reading and highlight books through student activities at the school level. The participating teams were made up of five students with one alternate. In order to compete, each student must have read seven of the selected books and be ready to answer questions on those books.

Elementary School Winners
First Place: Gladys A. Abraham School— Kobe Sutton, Jah’Canny Freeman, Asel Mustafa, Yara Matthew-Pollack, Kerishne Warner and Loranny Labady Second Second Place: Lockhart Elementary School — Akwany Dore, Muhammad Ali, McKim Colaire, Jah’Noia Abramson, Dylante Dehaarte and Kadia Joseph
Third Place: Yvonne E. Milliner-Bowsky School — Quiannah Potter, Arianna Watson, Jonathan Xavier, Bailey McClure, Marteo Francis and Ajanik Benjamin
Junior High Schools
First Place: Addelita Cancryn Jr. H.S. — Damien Sanchez, Oneiqua Forde, Anthony Lin, Brent Peter, Lorensa de Castro and Missael Sylvestre
Second Place: V.I. Montessori Academy — Nika Pearl-Edwards, Aileen Phelan, Kayla Clendenin, Shaki Esprit, Khalese Potter and Shabree Anthony
Third Place: Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School — Sheila Joseph, Deyjah Foster, Morgan Cleaveland, Arthur Williams and Mary Buendia
Nancy Christie, district coordinator for Library Media Services said, “I would like to thank the coaches who worked with their students throughout the year in order to make this culminating activity possible and the school administrators who continue to support events proposed through Library Media Services.”
