Valentine’s Day Vow Renewal Set for Saturday

Grab your honey and head on over to Trunk Bay for Saturday’s 13th annual Valentine’s Day Vow Renewal Ceremony. It begins at 5 p.m.

“It’s a celebration of their relationship and their love,” said Anne Marie Porter, a St. John-based nondenominational minister.

Porter said she created the free event to honor married couples. Since it began, about 1,230 couples have renewed their marriage vows at the Valentine’s Day celebration.

Porter presides over the beachfront ceremony.

Couples and their families are welcomed with “Here Comes the Bride” played on a steel pan by Albion Sewer.

Near the beach, Michael Banzhaf and a musician who goes by the name of Broheem will play flute duets. Tischelle, a blues singer, will entertain at the beach.

Porter said grooms will receive a certificate commemorating the event and brides will receive a rose.

Couples coming from St. Thomas should take the 4 p.m. ferry. Taxis depart from the ferry dock for Trunk Bay. Porter cautioned that taking the barge doesn’t work because it’s cutting it too close to get the last barge from St. John to St. Thomas. She said parking is tight at Trunk Bay.
