Masked, Armed Men Hit Jewelry Store

Two or three masked, armed assailants committed a daylight robbery of the Goldland Jewelry store in downtown Charlotte Amalie, hitting the store, smashing glass and making off with an undisclosed number of jewelry pieces in about three minutes, the V.I. Police Department reported.

At about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, officers from the Richard N. Callwood Command Patrol Division and the Criminal Investigation Bureau traveled to jewelry store on Dronningens Gade in reference to an armed robbery. At the scene, the victim told officers he ran to the back of the store to avoid being hurt by the assailants, who entered with a firearm. The victim then said the robbers were in the store for about three minutes.

Upon leaving the back area of the store, the victim saw scattered glass in the store front and several pieces of jewelry missing.

The case is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Police urged anyone with information about the crime to call the bureau at 340-774-2211, the 911 call center, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477 (1-800-222-TIPS.)
