Two St. Thomas men were injured by gunfire in separate incidents over the weekend, the V.I. Police Department reported.
The police did not identify either of the victims, in accordance with department policy.
At 10:32 p.m. Saturday, the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to Smith Bay, in the vicinity of the Lone Eagle Supermarket, in reference to a gunshot victim. At the scene, officers encountered a male victim with gunshot wounds. The victim was unresponsive and was transported via ambulance to the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital for treatment of his wounds.
When he became responsive at the hospital the victim was uncooperative, police said, and did not give officers details of the incident.
At 4 a.m. Sunday, the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to the Roy L. Schneider Regional Medical Center Emergency Room in response to a reported gunshot victim.
The male victim reported to detectives that while he was driving his vehicle in the area of Harwood Highway, he heard a gunshot. He said he made it to the Weymouth Rhymer Highway when he felt liquid running down his leg and realized that he was bleeding. He then turned around and drove himself to the hospital. The victim sustained a gunshot wound, was treated for his injury and released.
Both cases are being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Police urged anyone with any information about either incident to contact 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 extension 5556, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
