The town of Frederiksted was lit in purple on Thursday night for the Women’s Coalition of St. Croix “Take Back the Night” 2022 silent march and rally. About 100 people gathered at the fish market in Frederiksted and marched to the clock tower on the waterfront.

“Everybody knows somebody who is a victim or a survivor of domestic violence.  Whether it is somebody in your home, somebody who is a friend, somebody who is a church member, or even somebody who is on your job or a friend of a friend,” said Shelby Gaddly the executive director of Legal Services V.I. “Everybody does indeed know somebody who has been a victim of domestic violence.”

One emotional moment occurred when a list of about 59 names was called one by one as volunteers placed the shoes of the victims lost from domestic violence on the foot of the steps at the clock tower.

October is domestic violence awareness month and the Women’s Coalition of St. Croix has been holding different activities throughout the month. You can keep updated on their Facebook Page.

The Women’s Coalition of St. Croix also has a 24-Hour crisis hotline at 340-773-9272.
