Man Blames Girlfriend For Auto Accident, Then Assaults Her

A man on St. Thomas was arrested for assault after blaming his girlfriend for an auto accident, the V.I. Police Department reported.

Miguel Jno-Baptiste, 27, was arrested Friday after his girlfriend reported that Jno-Baptiste had assaulted her. The victim stated that on Tuesday, Jno-Baptiste came to her residence and began blaming her for an auto accident that he had been in on the same day. The victim said that Jno-Baptiste began to strike her in the head and about her body and then left the residence. She said that he then came back and when she tried to speak to him, he struck her in the head and began to strangle her, according to the police report.

Jno-Baptiste was charged with assault in the second-degree DV, simple assault DV, and disturbance of the peace-DV. No bail was set. He was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advice of Rights Hearing, police said.

This case is presently under investigation by the Domestic Violence Bureau. Anyone with
