Arrest Made at Vegetable Market on St. Croix

A man on St. Croix was arrested for carrying a loaded firearm, the V.I. Police Department reported.

Officers were on patrol Friday in Frederiksted, in the vicinity of the vegetable market when a strong odor of marijuana emanated from the area. As the officers perused the area, they saw a man quickly pick up a white bag and a black shoulder bag off a concrete table and the man began walking toward a silver vehicle that was parked next to the vegetable market, according to the police report.

Sekani Russell, 24, was ordered by the officers to stop, but he refused to do so. As
officers approached Russell, he placed the white plastic bag on the roof of the silver
vehicle. Several clear vials with a green leafy substance began to roll out from the white
plastic bag. Russell was then given a verbal command to place his hands behind his back,
which he did without incident. A search of the black shoulder bag revealed a loaded .38
Special handgun, the report stated.

Russell was then placed under arrest for charges of carrying of a firearm; openly or concealed, possession of ammunition, and failure to register a firearm. Bail was set at $50,000. He was remanded to the John A. Bell Adult Correction Facility pending his advice of rights hearing, police said.
